YFN Lucci is still alive, despite online rumors that the 33-year-old rapper had been killed in prison. Lucci in January pleaded guilty to the gang-related charges in a plea bargain, after three years of being charged with murder, gang, and racketeering in Atlanta. He was to be sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
Rumors on Wednesday that he had been found dead started making the rounds on social media with Lucci, whose real name is Ray-Shawn Bennett. But TMZ says that Lucci’s attorney, Drew Findling, who defended him at the hearing held in January, has given the media information that his client is alive and in good health.
Some people speculated that the rumors that for some time Lucci was dead were being circulated with the purpose of eliciting a response from the masses, specifically after Rich Homie Quan, a fellow rapper however, Lucci’s ex-label mate, died earlier this month.
Quan, whose birth name was Dequantes Lamar, was killed at age 34 in his home. He has not been made to unveil the cause of his death.
Lucci was charged in April 2021 along with dozens of others as part of a sweeping indictment against alleged members of the Bloods gang. He was charged with murder in January 2021 after police said he was the driver in a gang-related drive-by shooting that left a man dead.
In that agreement, prosecutors dismissed 12 of 13 charges against Bennett, and he proceeded to enter a guilty plea to the charge of violating the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, according to his lawyers. “After three years of pretrial litigation, a two-week-plus jury selection process, and three years of imprisonment, the prosecution has finally given up and dismissed the murder and RICO charges against Ray-Shawn Bennett,” his defense attorneys Drew Findling, Gabe Banks and Marissa Goldberg said at the time.
The only way is that as Mr. Bennett has been saying for the last three years, he will not be part of any other cases. Lucci agreed to the plea bargain and entered a guilty plea on the 23rd of January 2024. The offender was put to 10 years imprisonment and 10 years probation. He had to serve time in prison which was considered part of the punishment.
In July, the Fulton County district attorney sent a letter to the state parole board supporting Lucci’s early release, which could be set for release in January 2025.

”The Fulton County district attorney took the unusual step,” Findling told Atlanta’s WSB-TV. “The specific writing is that letter that the district attorney made and that letter is very significant in the documents and memoranda that went to the parole board. ”
